In We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies, Matthew Tysz creates a world that stimulates the imagination. With action-packed fights, magic, and political drama at its center, this novel is one that readers of the fantasy genre are sure to love.

In line with the wishes of his dying uncle, Galen Bray escapes from the war-ravaged nation known as the Land of Princes to Voulhire, a place renowned for its prosperity. In Voulhire, he would inherit his uncle's properties. He would also meet Rowan, the executor of his uncle's will, with whom he became fast friends. With a new home and a friend by his side, Galen figured life was finally looking up. However, the situation in Voulhire is not as pleasant as the front it presents; from political turmoil to a ruthless mage to the threat of war, things are about to take a dramatic turn for the worse in this world.

Michael Tysz took his time building the story. Being the first book in the series, he uses it to lay the foundation for the books that are to follow. The author was just content to use it to show the readers the workings of Voulhire and all its characters. And as far as introductions go, this one did not disappoint. It captured my attention from the first page and was well organized, with each plot leading to a bigger one.

The attention the author gave to developing the characters was what I loved most about this book. With a realistic feel to them, each character had their own distinct personalities. From Rowan's witty humor to Galen's curious and gentle demeanor, to Maido's cloying nature and Meldorath's ruthlessness, this novel boasts a wide selection of characters, each of whom is an important piece that affects the development of the story. The story was told both from a first-person and a third-person perspective.

In all honesty, I have no problem with this novel. From the storytelling to the character development, Matthew Tysz did an amazing job. I also did not notice any errors in it to warrant a reduction in stars, as this book was well edited. I would give it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. Overall, reading We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies was a pleasurable experience for me. I particularly liked the author's attention to details. I would recommend this book to readers of fantasy novels.
