We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, written by Matthew Tysz, starts with a sword fight when the magistrate arrests the ruler of a small coastal city and charges him with bedroom acts upon children. The magistrate becomes the newly appointed lord of the land but a king orders to capture him only a few months later.

The author constantly switches from narrating the story as a taleteller to describing events from the main protagonist's point of view. The main character, Galen, uses the first-person manner to tell the legend of a vast and powerful empire with a wise and wicked ruler who had four sons. The king was suspicious of his sons and afraid they would conspire to overthrow him and take the power of the magical kingdom. Eventually, the emperor gave the princes the small chains of islands surrounding the mainland to control. The islands were beautiful and prosperous, rich in natural resources. However, seeking more power, princes got involved in a civil war.

The main protagonist of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies explains his life in the Lands of the Princes during the long-standing war as a two possible way outcome: death by the sword or slow starvation. That is why he did not have any doubts after receiving an invitation to travel to the mainland, where his great-uncle owned a forge. Upon arriving at the Magnum Caelum, Galen learns that his relative died, and he is now an owner of the uncle's property.

I enjoyed reading this book. I liked the author's writing style and was impressed by the originality of his ideas. Vivid depictions of events and thorough descriptions of characters allowed me to immerse myself in the magical world of warriors and kings. I also liked that the book contains strong female characters: women warriors and commanders.

We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies tells a story of a young man who escapes his war-torn homeland and finds new opportunities and horizons in unfamiliar places. The book includes a map of magical land created by the author, so the readers will not lose the sense of time and will locate without effort each of the many places where adventures will take the main protagonist.

The story is well-written and captivating. The book is exceptionally edited. There is nothing I disliked about We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies. So I rate it 4 out of 4.

I recommend reading this book to fans of fantasy and adventures. The story will also be interesting to everyone who wants to unwind from the reality of everyday life and immerse in the magical world of kings and sword fights.
