We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first book from the science fiction series We are Voulhire. This book is adventurous, and it reads like a medieval war story in a magical realm. The first chapter starts with a young man named Galen Bray from the Land of the Princes. Even though this was home, he left in a heartbeat because of all the war happening. Leaving the land of princes was not easy either, Galen found himself being chased by a group of men on his way to board a ship to the Kingdom of Voulhire. Galen had inherited a steel forge family business in a town called Magnum Caelum from his uncle who has lost touch with his family for a long time, and the inheritance was a way for him to try to make amends. When Galen arrives in Voulhire he met his uncle’s executor named Rowan who helped get used to Voulhire and quickly taking over his uncle's business.

Another character in the book was Wihelm, the King of Voulhire and he was a paranoid power-hungry King with a lot of enemies. He was at war with a group of terrorists called the Riva Rohavi. The king also had a powerful lord of Hillport arrested called Meldorath who was deeply feared by everyone in Voulhire because of his control over fear, love, and envy. The new lord appointed by the king was now Eldus, and he was determined to change the place for good and earn the trust of the people in Hillport.

This is a very detailed science fiction novel filled with adventure and mysterious characters. I also like how the kingdom of Voulhire feels like it is really out of this world which made me feel like I was reading a Starwars book. Another part I liked in the book is the scene when Beth was traveling into a different realm, vividly capturing the details and the unique experience of being in a different world so well. And lastly I do believe this book was professionally edited.

I’d say the only thing I didn't like about the book was that it had too many characters, and I think that made it a bit hard for me to follow the storyline. I felt like that made the storyline seem longer and this is a short book. However, that didn’t affect my rating since I've finished the book, even though I had to read it a couple of times to understand it better.

With that being said, I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars because I was happy with the author’s ability to capture such a world with vivid details. Even though the book has many characters, the storyline flows in one direction. The book was also edited professionally as I found no typos or spelling errors.

I recommend this book to young adults, especially lovers of science fiction and fantasy. If you love medieval story when wars were fought with bow and arrows, swords and shield you'll enjoy reading this book.
