Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Set on a journey to his great uncle’s place to claim his inheritance, Galen left the raging war in the Lands of the Princes and went to Voulhire to find his uncle’s forge in a small town called Magnum Caleum. In Voulhire, you can find everything; people who use magic, evolution, and conflicts. Change is taking place in this interesting kingdom, with people who reject the new evolution and a strong mage imprisoned in a castle, a new chapter begins in Voulhire.
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is a fantasy novel written by Matthew Tysz. While I like fantasy books, I find this one different, the politics and conflicts in Voulhire are quite realistic, and even though there is magic, it can’t solve everything, you still need power and money to get through struggles.
When I started the book, I felt like I am entering an entirely new world. Exploring Voulhire was an adventure to me as it was to Galen, and that is exactly what I like about fantasy books, they get you absorbed in them and activate your imagination. The author did a great job describing this world to us, I felt intrigued by the idea of the Cosmos and Caromentis and how they affect each other in a universe full of wonders.
The author introduces us to many characters in this book. There is king Wilhelm Arcolo, a man who thinks for the good of his country but got absorbed in politics which may affect his judgment someday, and his chancellor Midius Maido, an interesting character that needs to grow up and be mature enough to deserve his position in the Mianoran council. Lord Eldus Alderman, an honest man who was appointed to make Hillport a better place and help its people heal from the tragedies they faced. Meldorath; the nightmare of the people in Hillport.
Then there is Galen, a simple young man who is seeing the world with new eyes after years of surviving in a land where people face starvation and death every day. The description of Galen’s reactions to anything he discovered can be described as perfect, he was like a child, getting to know the world for the first time.
I rate this book four out of four, I liked the plot, and the description of every character in the book ,and I find it professionally edited. The book is the first one in the series “We are Voulhire”. The book sometimes got a little confusing but you easily overcome it after getting absorbed in the book. I want to thank the author for making a map for the book, it is a great idea and it really helped.
For anyone who likes fantasy books that actually make sense, you will find this book interesting.
