We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a fantasy book that tells the tale of the kingdom of Voulhire. There, we are introduced to Galen who has just inherited a forge from his great-uncle. Galen was a refugee in a devastated land and views his newly acquired wealth as a way for him to do much good in his new home. However, the state of affairs in Voulhire is not as glamorous as he had hoped.

The book is the first of a series of 9 books and the author spends much of the book introducing the land and its inhabitants. As with any nation, the threats come from both inside and outside. There is a powerful mage imprisoned not far from the kingdom who could strike given a glimpse. Working against the kingdom, there are also the rebels who reside in Riva Rohavi, determined to destroy the wealth of Voulhire. The knights meant to be the greatest defense that Voulhire has are an unknown quantity, given the corrupt nature of the first knight who sees the kingdom as nothing more than a game. However, in the midst of all this, Galen discovers a stone that holds an untold secret. Could it be what saves the kingdom or what destroys it?

I enjoyed the tension that the book had in every chapter. The reader is always engaged as you never know what event will be the act that topples the house of cards and crumbles the kingdom. The interactions between the characters are interesting and the line between good and bad gets blurrier the more you know. The way the book is written allows the reader to establish a connection with the book early on and ride the wave of their emotions to the very end.

The only negative aspect of this book that I found is that it contains little action until the end of the book. This makes sense as this is the introductory book to the series, so readers must keep that in mind. By no means does this make the book dull though.

The book is professionally edited and I found no errors in the book. It was suspenseful, engaging, and enjoyable to read. As a result, I give We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies a rating of 4 out of 4 stars.

I recommend this book to those who enjoy entertaining books and those who love fantasy. Those who enjoy suspenseful drama will also enjoy reading this book.
