Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first book in the series, We are Voulhire. The narrations are based on a refugee, Galen Bray, a young man fleeing his war-torn motherland, the Land of Princes. A civil war had broken out, making people die by slow starvation or sword. Running away from a lifetime of warfare, Galen Bray took a ship sailing to Voulhire, where he inherited a business property owned by his late uncle at Magnum Caelum city. The Voulhire kingdom was powerful under King Wilhelm, a wicked and wise king known by the world as the Emperor of Lullabies. The way of life of the natives was different from the way Galen Bray was used to. Resources and opportunities presented to him opened his view and perspective on how things happen. While seeking fortune and prosperity in a fast-changing world, Galen Bray found it hard to relocate himself. Despite many challenges, Galen Bray learned more about the world.
It is a fantastic book to read. First, the author is a skilled narrator, mainly in the sweet narrations of the old man on the ship, telling about the magnificent places in Voulhire: Virko, Magnum Caelum, Soulhire, Yamon Soul, and Gallador. Secondly, the character of Galen Bray is admirable. He is a determined, open-minded, and wide-eyed young man who learned to see the very good in everything, grab every opportunity that came his way, and never allowed situations around him to hinder him from partaking in what he deserved. Thirdly, the plots are well-schemed, collectively accommodating norms, cultural aspects, beliefs, and people's lifestyles through science, politics, magic, and religion. Fourthly, the author couples comedy and humor, mainly through how he paints Galen Bray as a funny character who hid his traveling bag in the bushes upon arrival at Magnum Caelum.
Although it is the first book in the series, the author has burdened the reader with a pool of characters, lengthy introductions, and background information.
I rate this book four out of four stars. The narrative style is appealing, and the storyline is captivating. In addition, the soothing flow and the well-schemed plots align with the title, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies. Once more, the book editing is exceptional.
I recommend this book to youths passionate about fantasy and fiction episodes. The novel is a good read on fantasy-based narrations of a powerful kingdom and a teen boy finding fortune amidst struggles.
