Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Galen Bray gets the most sought after opportunity to escape the war-filled lands of princes. On behalf of Galen's great-uncle, his executor sends the papers that Galen needs to leave the war-filled lands behind and enter the great nation of Voulhire. Voulhire is celebrating its golden age under the great king, Wilhelm Arcolo. But it doesn't mean the kingdom is without its' troubles. A truely powerful mage who happened to have conducted experiments using people is said to have killed himself. And the kingdom of Voulhire is going through a complicated power struggle between the king and the Mianora. Will Galen get used to the new life in this great nation? Is the powerful mage truly gone? Will the king be able to get through the political conspiracy? To find out, you will have to read this exciting fantasy book.
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a fascinating fantasy novel. This book is the first part of a series containing nine books. The author did a good job of setting the basis of the plot with well-developed characters and geopraphy. This book has a different style of dividing chapters than I'm used to reading. Each chapter starts with a title or a name, and the chapter flows by introducing the character or playing out the scene. Though the character building was slow at the start of the book, it wasn't a discouragement to not read through till the end.
I especially liked the character curves of development the author employed in this book. It showed the character's emotions and thoughts within their minds and how they bond and interact with the other characters. Galen, Rowan, and Demetrius are my favorite characters so far in the book. I liked how Rowan came forward to help Galen and how they bonded despite having different backgrounds and experiences, which is awe inspiring on its own. And I loved how Demetrius was patient with Rowan. And the dancing elites of Voulhire were hilarious.
What I least liked were some scenes of the use of magic and child abuse. Though there weren't graphic scenes of child abuse, it still made me a little bit uncomfortable to read. But otherwise, there was nothing I disliked about this fascinating and engaging fantasy novel.
I didn't find any mistakes or errors in my reading thus I can say that the book is exceptionally well edited. I recommend the book to anyone who loves fantasy books and books with well-developed plots and characters. But due to the violence, profanity, and light sexual content, I would say this suits a much older audience. And I give We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under the Great Skies a rating of 4 out of 4 stars . It is a very engaging and highly enjoyable book that I would love for others to enjoy.
