Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
The fictional book We Are Volhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Mathew Tysz is pretty intriguing. It chronicles the tale of Volhire, a vast kingdom, and its neighbouring important cities. There are some people who live in the cosmos (the real world) who have strong ties to Caromentis (the magical world), giving them extraordinary magical abilities. They are frequently called mage.
The perspectives of numerous distinct individuals are combined in this novel. Without parents, siblings, or any close family members to care for him, Galen is a young man with only one priority: survival. With a letter from his uncle, a former blacksmith who passed away shortly after delivering the letter, he travels from the Lands of the Princes to Magnum Caelum and learns that his uncle had left him quite a lot. Rowan, his uncle's executor, joins him as they tour the city. Rowan teaches Galen not only the ways of the city but also those of a blacksmith. The focus of the narrative also shifts to Lord Eldus, a vassal of King Wilhelm sent to manage Hillport, a city whose previous two rulers had been killed and imprisoned, respectively. He was also responsible for keeping an eye on the island jail where the previous king, Meldorath, an evil mage, was being held. The opinions of a number of additional characters are also extensively covered in the book.
This wonderful fantasy book, We Are Volhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies, is a must-read. This is not your typical pulp novel! I appreciate how the author maintains the book's flow while providing in-depth insights into a number of different people. Galen is the persona I enjoy the most. I appreciate his eagerness to pick up new skills and his capacity to adjust to any situation. In this book's courtroom scene, where an elderly bio-magician named Mr. de Lasette mocks the judge while he is on trial for his own crimes and finally humiliates her and many others there, I find myself laughing the most. Even if it's a little off-the-wall, the humour is well received.
Despite how much I loved this book, there were a few things I didn't like. The shift in viewpoint between the several characters wasn't seamless. It seemed like reading another book entirely because there were so many characters involved. It was occasionally challenging to keep up with it. Overall, I really believe that reading this book is worthwhile.
This book has a 4 out of 5 star rating from me. The book's plot was fantastic, but I did find a few passages to be quite confusing. In some cases, I even had to go back to the beginning of a few chapters. I would say the book was really well edited because there were no grammatical or spelling mistakes. I suggest this book to readers who enjoy reading from the first-person perspective and to everyone who enjoys fantastic adventures in general.
