The Devil Pulls the Strings, written by J. W. Zarek, is a fictional book about Boone Daniels and the challenges he faced to keep his promise to his friend, Flynn. Boone Daniels was fighting with Flynn for a prize in a competition, and Flynn was seriously injured. Flynn requests Boone Daniels to represent him in a band concert in New York City. To join the band, he had to contact Professor Stone, and when he reached his place, he found a body and a piano falling from the balcony. He runs from the scene with a lady called Sapphire Anjou since armed men follow them, and they are after Paganini music but manage to escape. Their lives are in danger, so they try to contact the police, where they meet Detectives Rizos and Sanchez. Professor Stone belonged to a society known as the Lavender and Roses Society which people believed to be a myth. They go to that society, and it has several rules. What is the Lavender and Roses Society? Read this book and find out.

I liked the descriptive content of the book since it made the reader have a mental image of the scene; for instance, the description of the physical appearance of the man that Boone Daniels and Sapphire Anjou met outside Professor Stone's place. It made the story sweet; hence, enjoying the story. I also liked the use of dialogue in conversations between characters. It made the story lively despite being fiction and the characters engaging. Finally, I like the story's plot and how the author connected the individual scenes to the whole story; for instance, Flynn and Boone Daniels's fight became the story's foundation.

I did not find anything to dislike in this book. The characters were engaging, and the story had a flow, ensuring that anyone easily understood and enjoyed it.

I rate The Devil Pulls the Strings by J. W. Zarek four out of four stars. The book was exceptionally well-edited; hence, I found no errors. It had many positive aspects and no negative aspects. The book's storyline was great, describing Boone Daniels and Sapphire Anjou's challenges with armed people chasing them. It was like watching a movie which made the book interesting. With all these great things, deducting a star would be unfair; hence, the rating.

I recommend this book to lovers of action thriller novels with mystery. It would be helpful since the book contains some actions that involve murders and the mystery part is about solving the murders and finding out why Paganini's music was worth killing.
