Book Review: The One by Kiera Cass

Post by lennon_fontaine14 »

The One, the last book for the Selection Trilogy, as I have read and finished can be sum up as; totally worth swooning, quite worth waiting and, a bit disappointing (for about 15%).

But first, I am in total awe of Kiera Cass! You really rock for creating another way of introducing Dystopian novels- caste system. Never have I imagine a future world having a caste system, which makes your work unique, elegant and classy and full of angst. The characters in this story were consistent all through the end though I’m quite surprise that there’s an AspenXLucy affair going on (needs some justice I think), which made me kinda resent Miss Kiera because I am a pure blooded Team Aspen. Hahaha!

But, I have to be honest that most chapters of the book focused on the whirlwind relationship between America and Maxon, which was kinda disappointing (because it was supposed to be a Dystopian novel and not some teenage love story) and drooling. LOL. I have to admit that I really like their fights because I’m really rooting for Aspen guys! Hahaha! And the love triangle between Maxon, Ames, and Aspen ended up like ‘Okay, that’s it’ way. Though I am not a fan of too much confrontations and whatnot, Cass could somehow did a little bit of justice in Maxon’s part. It’s not like men could forgive something like that so easily. They are men, duh. Like for a few hours he was so mean and then in just a blink of an eye he was the old Maxon whose willing to die for America. And then in the end, it was Aspen who walked Ames in the aisle- like what the fish? That’s it? No clarifications or what? Are we in a race?

And I think it kinda lacks action- you know that moment when your heart beats fast and after reading that part you’ll realize that you are holding your dear breath. Though I kinda felt it in the end, I think it was still not enough.

It was cliff hanging indeed. Eventhough it’s the last book, I still crave for it. Maybe some short series or what. But, nevertheless I enjoyed reading this book. As I’ve said it’s way too different from other Dystopian novels so you better grab this book and spend the next hours of your life drooling, swooning, and giving Kiera Cass two thumbs up with matching teary eyes. Hahaha! xoxo
