Book Review: Reboot by Amy Tintera
And that smile. That smile was strange here. Newbies didn’t come in smiling; they came in terrified and miserable.
He was definitely weird.
Wren died when she was around twelve years old and became a Reboot after 178 minutes. Which means that the longer you stay asleep before waking up (as a Reboot and no longer a human) from sudden death, the stronger Reboot you’ll be. Five years later, Wren was considered the strongest Reboot in the Republic of Texas and she’s quite fond of being the trainer of the new Reboots. So, the conflict starts when Wren Connolly picks Callum Reyes, 22, as her newbie. Which is very odd because Wren usually picks Reboots with high number.
And Callum Reyes is way to annoying for Wren. He keeps on asking pesky questions and he doesn’t mind disobeying HARC’s instructions because he believes that they have their own choices to choose from. So, when Wren was told to eliminate Callum, she did something HARC officials would adamantly disagree- let alone imagined.
…but for the first I wanted to rise up on my toes and bring my face closer to his.
I’ve never been this excited to know what will happen next after a chapter ends. I excitedly jump into every chapter’s ending to see if something nerve-twisting thing happen. It was fast phasing enough that you would find yourself holding your breath until a certain chapter ends. ‘Wooo! Quite intense in there ah?’
“Right, I’ll let you shower… Or I could stay.”
How is it possible to find such a humorous and witty personality in the persona of Callum? Duh, post-apocalypse and he’s still like ‘Wanna hang out with me?’. Don’t get me wrong but it’s really cool because I don’t have to face another oh-so-serious protagonists again. Haven’t you notice that ’twas always their side kick that was being funny? Just sayin.
“Until I saw you. I remember lying on the ground and staring up at you thinking, If girls that cute are here, it can’t be all bad.”
Can’t count how many times I gasped when they were trying to save prisoned Reboots in Austin Facility and trying to get the antidote for Callum. It’s so damn true that once you felt true love, you would whatever it takes just to save and be with him for the rest of your life!
I like that the novel shows that it doesn’t depend on wealth who will live and survive the most. It shows that in this world we live in, no matter how prominent or wealthy you are, you can never fathom how long you’ll live or how will you die because everything that had happened and will happen to us is according in God’s will.
I can’t wait for the sequel! And I do hope that it’ll be more breathtaking and exciting than Reboot!
