Book Review: Starters by Lissa Price

Post by lennon_fontaine14 »

Starters is a story about Callie Woodland- a sixteen year old girl who is forced to go in Prime Destinations to rent her body to an Ender- seniors who want to be young again. If ever she has accomplished the renting, she’ll be given enough money to raise her brother, Tyler, who is sick. And to have a house so that they’ll be able to live free from renegades who did nothing but to fight anyone they see because of their gut-feeling that they have food and whatnot. The complications starts when Callie Woodland wakes up during her rental with the last Ender. She thought that she was one step closer to her dreams of having a shelter for her brother and Michael but, when her chip was altered, it seems like she was one million steps away from being safe.

The good thing about this book is that it has a different attack of how the world would look like. Yea, it includes high technology and a disease that almost killed the entire population but, what can you say about chips, renegades, friendlies, Starters, Enders and whatnot? Ain’t it cool? \m/

“Really?” he whispered, his voice cracking. “Promise?”
It broke my heart.
“I promise.”

It has a touch of family- striving and surviving amidst the wrecked world. The thing about this book is that it values family relationship more than anything else in this world. Like, it is the reason why Callie went to Prime Destinations- to provide Tyler’s needs, her one and only family. It values friendship, that even if we just met them in a very short time, we are never afraid of sacrificing ourselves because we know it’s the right thing to do and that you know that person will do everything to justify your death.

“Callie. I don’t know why, I can’t explain it, but I feel connected to you.”

“I know. Me too.”

I have nothing against CallieXBlake tandem eventhough I am in so much favor of CallieXMichael tandem. It’s just that Callie and Blakes needs more justification. Well, it’s not like you feel so mutually attached to a person in just a short time of getting to know each other. But, it’s good to know that the book focused on the society’s problem rather than focusing on their loveteam.

Accepting that we get old and we should make the most out of our lives is I think what the novel really implies. But, other than that you should really read this because of all the TWISTS that will twists your brain until you can’t remember how to add and subtract numbers. HA-HA-HA :)

Hoping this would help you decide what is the next book to read! xoxo
