Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is an exciting fantasy book. It is the first book in the We Are Voulhire series. What happens when the magical world interferes with the physical?
Galen Bray does not want to continue living in fear brought on by the chaos and war in the Land of the Princes. He finds the opportunity to flee and does not hesitate. He settles in Magnum Caelum to inherit his late uncle's business. Galen is unaware of the dark secrets in this city. He gets two new companions, Rowan and Demetrius. Can he trust them? What secrets are in Voulhire? Grab this book to find out.
I love the writing style of the author. Though the book is written from multiple perspectives, I had clarity while reading. The characters in the book are well-developed and fit perfectly. The book does not lack thrilling suspense and mystery. The unpredictable plot twists kept me turning the pages and eager to continue the series. Meldorath, the powerful mage, threatened the land. How can they stop this enemy? Every chapter left me excited to find out what would happen next.
I enjoyed reading about the worlds created by the author. I loved how he blended the physical world and Caromentis, the world of magic. The author vividly describes the land and features of both worlds. The author skillfully used his words to bring scenes, places, and people to life while reading. I could imagine every scene effortlessly. The glossary added at the beginning helped me understand Voulhire, and the author also included the history to deepen the readers' knowledge of the land. Though there is a blend of history in this fantasy book, it does not bore the readers. Rather, it makes the book more intriguing.
I found nothing to dislike in the book. It also contains several themes, such as history, magic, and politics. It is fast-paced and has mysteries that would capture any reader's attention. I found no grammatical or typographical errors in the book while reading due to its professional editing. Therefore, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
I recommend this book to lovers of adventures and fantasy with mysteries and dark secrets. The book contains scenes of violence that some readers might consider extreme. I recommend this book to adult readers because it contains profane language. Sensitive readers might also consider this unappealing.
