Review of Terms of Service
One of the best technological discoveries that has ever happened is Artificial Intelligence(AI). We humans give an order through writing or speech, and it is executed there and then, once or contineously. For example, the notifications that come as an alert when something comes up on one of the programmes we use on the internet like gmail, facebook and so on.
That is the kind of life Kim is used to. She wakes up, her breakfast is prepared by her housebot, her clothes chosen, and then, she is off to work. While on the way to her place of work, she also receives instructions of the tasks she has to execute. At work, she works with automatons. Automatons are devices that need to be shown direction because they do not know what to do next. Her main goal is to work with the AIs higher than the ones she is working with currently.
The story begins and ends with Kim. She is the main facet of this story. Through her, we learn about the advantages a person can have when they work within the Terms of Service, and the disadvantages that take place when one strains any of them. It is hard to be consistent because the conditions may change at any moment without prior notice as was stated by the author. The story has a slow start because the author is just ushering us into the storyline. But when every aspect is adequately explained, the story picks its momentum. For example, we begin by seeing the beauty in living a life with the AIs in it such as a life free of hardships, a good salary, the freedom to date whoever you want as long as this is the person who is approved by the AI, the freedom to drink to a pulp and not get confronted for it. It is beautiful up until the moment a person starts feeling the monotony. That is to say, the excess virtual reality to the extent that even the meetings at work take place virtually, interacting with holograms, and virtual games.
One of the aspects I loved about working for the AIs was having a life free of hardships like doing housechores. I did not like the part where the wardrobe was always the same for everyone, the constant use of drugs, and not being able to choose the one you date. I loved the fact that the author completely captured my attention. I gained a degree of dislike for Artificial Intelligence, due to the thoughts like what if this was real, I would not want to live like this. Hence, I have to say that this story was told very well. There were some minor profane words and sexual content. I did not come across any errors. In this regard, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It was exceptionally edited. It is unique because it captured the good and bad of Artificial Intelligence without overly exploiting one aspect. I have to say that one of the aspects I came to notice is that Artificial Intelligence does not have any compassion. Therefore, it may always face loopholes while ruling over the human race. This book is Terms of Service. It was authored by Craig W. Stanfill.
This book is fictitious in nature. It has the merits and demerits of technology depending on how it is handled and behaves. The importance of not letting technology rule over our lives is highlighted. There are also the dangers and effects of drugs, especially when it becomes a daily routine. Be it alcohol, antibiotics, diet pills and so on. The importance of having friends is talked about. They may be the wake-up call to the situations taking place in our lives as Shan was to Kim. The story has all of these aspects exposed and explored plus some sexuality as a recognition to how it may be affected by Artificial Intelligence. If you love all or any of the above aspects , are aged eighteen years and above, please catch up on this story. You will find it interesting and captivating.
