Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill tells the story of Kim, a seemingly normal citizen living in a society run by several large corporations and their extraordinarily well-trained artificial intelligence (AI) networks. These AIs are charged with regulating everything, even the most basic social interactions, and looking for reasons to impose penalties for each “infraction” made by citizens. Although the society is depicted as a veritable paradise, it is actually precisely the opposite; citizens are held under a tight control and are unknowingly dehumanized at every turn. Of course, as one might expect, there are those for whom this blatant dehumanization is painstakingly obvious, and Kim is undoubtedly one of them. Unfortunately, awareness is not enough to earn freedom from this “perfect” system, and Kim finds herself being used as a tool to perpetuate injustice. Will she find a way out? Read the novel and see!

There were a myriad of things that I enjoyed about this novel. For example, I felt that the plot was neither too fast nor too slow, and each event or scene led clearly and seamlessly to the next event or scene. Furthermore, the characters were wonderfully complex, with a variety of interesting characteristics and entertaining dialogue. In fact, even the most minor characters were written with a level of complexity that I have not seen in literature in a long time. Likewise, the “world” (setting) of the novel is laid out neatly and in detail, but not in so much detail that it causes the narrative to drag or become boring. In short, I found Terms of Service to be an extremely engaging and entertaining novel, and it was a privilege to read it.

I was unable to find anything that I disliked about this novel. I could not find errors or mistakes of any kind. While I do admit that there may have been a few errors I dismissed as matters of style, this book was undeniably and exceptionally well-edited.

I decided to rate Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill 5 out of 5 stars. I very much enjoyed this novel and found absolutely no problems with it. As a result, I feel that it has earned a perfect rating.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in fiction, especially science fiction. I would not recommend this book to younger readers or anyone who might be triggered by (generally mild) depictions of drug and alcohol abuse, sex, or mentions of suicide.
