Memory of Water

Post by 11-22-63sk »

If anyone wants a really good book to read I recommend to read Memory of Water by Emmi Itaranta is amazing. "Sometime in the future a worldwide disaster means water is strictly rationed. Noria Kaitio lives with her mother, a scientist and her father, a teamaster in the traditional Japanese custom who is allowed to practise his skill in spite of close scrutiny from the local authorities. When Noria's mother leaves for a job in the city, Noria remains with her ailing father so she can continue with her own teamaster training.

Life is hard and restricted, with most technology redundant or regulated - Noria's friend Sanja helps to support her family by scavenging on a scrapheap for items she can repair and sell, and there the two friends discover old tape recordings that open up a mystery. Noria may have her father's love of tradition but she also shares her mother's yearning for knowledge, and the recordings left by a group of water-seeking explorers lead her to a path of danger and sacrifice."

This sounds like a very interesting book, I will have to check it out.
