Review of Terms of Service
Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill is the first book in the AI Dystopia series. The story took place in a future where giant corporations and a corrupt social conscience movement rule the world with an iron fist. They told the people what to wear, what to eat, and where to go. Kim is one of those people. Kim worked for an Artificial Intelligence Company. She worked there with the AI to find and report anyone that breaks the law or anyone that is different. Kim knew that she must not be different to live a good life in this society. But everything changed when Kim and her childhood friend, Shan, went on a misadventure. She was chosen to be a Creator of an AI named Kimberly and learned more truths about the society she lived in. Should Kim continue her life as a model citizen? Or should she be different?
What I liked the most about this book was the way the author wrote the story. The story started slow. The focus here is Kim’s daily and social life. She even did something that seems questionable and unnecessary here. The story became more thrilling halfway through the book when Kim and Shan had their misadventure. Then the book ends when the story gets more serious. In the end, I learned that the questionable and unnecessary things that Kim did at the beginning turned out to be very vital to the story. I have to say that the author did an incredible job of making me want to read the next book in the series.
I also liked Kim’s character development throughout the story. She started out as someone who was quite dull and annoying. But as the story progresses, she has become a strong character that isn’t afraid to do what is right. She is also quite wise because she knew when she couldn’t win a fight. The author did a great job of making her a relatable and sympathetic character. However, my favorite character is Kimberly. I liked how Kimberly kept questioning the orders that were given to her and how she took care of Kim by reminding her if she did anything wrong. I hope I can read more about Kimberly in the next book.
I had nothing to dislike about this book. There are a few errors, but they didn’t reduce the reading experience in any way. So I can say that this book is professionally edited. I gladly rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book has a thrilling story with interesting characters. I can’t wait to read the next book.
I recommend this book to readers who like stories with a dystopian future setting. Readers who enjoy stories about machines versus humanity will also enjoy this book. This book is also suitable for mature readers because of the sexual scenes depicted in it.
