Review of Terms of Service
The novel Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill is a science fiction story set in a future society where artificial intelligence has taken over the world. The primary character of the story is Kim. Kim lives in a neighbourhood with strict rules and regulations that she must follow. An artificial intelligence machine controls every aspect of her life and applies to every other person. The AI assesses a person's decisions about their diet, discussion subjects, entertainment, company, and other choices. Those who refuse to work side by side with the artificially intelligent system will be considered guilty of a crime and severely punished; this makes it a society with no freedom. Kim was motivated to break free after working on a new project, but doing so might endanger her life since she is battling against a strong opponent who has absolute control over the society in which she lives. Will she be successful in her plan? Do you want to know more? Then read this book.
I love how Craig thought of how the world will be in the future. He envisions a technologically dominated world in which everyone in society must dance to its tune. This world is a society where crimes are almost impossible since technology determines and monitors how people live.
This novel is very educational. I got to understand that there can never be a perfect society. The utopian world Craig pointed out may benefit the public, but it doesn't leave much room for individual freedom. Since technology invades people's privacy, one is scared to do as they like. Even though this society is well-ordered, as long as it doesn't give room to liberalism, it can never be perfect. So the concept of utopia doesn't even apply to the future world from the start.
There isn't anything I dislike about the novel. It is professionally well-edited. It was just a minor error I discovered. It is one of the best books I have ever read. It deserves 5 out of 5 stars because it has an exciting subject matter. Many readers find stories that talk about the future quite interesting. The book is philosophical since it discusses how society will be in the future.
This novel has extensive sexual content but also quite a bit of profanity. I recommend it for mature audiences who love science fiction set in the future. I will also recommend it for philosophy and political students who want to glimpse how society will be if artificial intelligence takes over the world.
