Have you ever imagined what it might be like to live in a world where humans and artificially intelligent robots and virtual reality avatars coexist? In that case, you may like the Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill. His vision of the world over 200 years from now is the epitome of this science fiction book. Kim is a real person in the Terms of Service, and she resides in the future United States of America. Her job primarily entails training the AIs at a company called The Artificial Intelligence Company. Her responsibilities include logical reasoning and problem solving with the AIs.

Kim starts to reflect her surroundings as she adapts to a world populated by AIs. She had an enlightening experience after stepping beyond her comfort zone. She wanted to comprehend why she was constantly observed and regulated in every aspect of her life. Kim's middle-level work entails monitoring infractions of society's norms, which she does with ease. The first few chapters of the novel are devoted to worldbuilding and characterization, which pays off when Kim earns a promotion and the job incentives increase for her. I was relieved to see that the narrative did not go as I had anticipated. Initially, I anticipated a traditional slip from grace followed by social isolation and retribution, but it's more than that.

The author designed a terrible and captivating environment. I can only imagine how Kim felt about being constantly observed and controlled. I felt goosebumps when reading this novel. This is how the world may seem if all technological developments are realized. I enjoyed how the author introduced the protagonist and their world at the beginning of the novel. It really assisted the reader in establishing the scenario and surroundings.

What I enjoyed most about this book is that the author provides a vision of a feasible future based on his real-world experience with AI, and his imagination is unmatched. What I didn’t like in this book is that there are some negative themes like drug use and sex. However, these topics seemed more hinted at than explicit.

The novel is captivating. The narrative is set in a near-future world where AI controls almost everything, yet there is a tremendous amount of humanity between the lines. I appreciate that the numerous specifics of artificial intelligence have been made available to the reader. There are no notable mistakes in this book. Thus, I rate this book five out of five stars. I would suggest this book to technology buffs and science fiction fans.
