Review of Terms of Service
What would you do if one day you find out that the life you are living isn't yours and that it's chosen by your company, the same company that is responsible for your pain and traumas? Terms of Service: Subject to change without notice is an enchanting book by Craig W. Stanfill, a Ph.D. holder in artificial intelligence. It is divided into three parts spring, summer and fall. The book takes us through Kim's journey of self-discovery and her society. Kim worked at an Artificial Intelligence company as an AI trainer. As the book begins, Kim wakes up with a hangover after having drunk more than she should have and having had a difficult and haunted night. With the help of the housebot, she prepares quickly to go to work.
Kim seems contented with the life she lives. A life controlled by AI machines. Everything in her life is controlled, i.e., what she wears, the food she eats, the drinks she takes, who she goes out with, etc. Some of the choices made for her brought her so much pain. For instance, when she went on a date with Mica only to realize that Mica was an outie. The frustrations and pain that followed were unbearable. Things take a different turn after her bicycle trip with her friend Shan, and she has to make a life-changing decision that would affect her. Kim reached a point where she couldn't take the pressure of everything around her and the machines, and she went against the Terms of Service of the AI machines. What happened to Kim after his rebellion? What led to her rebellion?
Picking Terms of Service: Subject to change without notice by Craig W. Stanfill to read; I wasn't sure of what to expect. I'm glad the book turned out perfectly well, and I enjoyed it. I liked this book for many reasons. First, I liked that the author included a note about the translation of the book. This helps readers understand why some terms were used instead of others. Second, I loved how well the author was informed about AI machines. This made it easier for him to put this book together and thus come up with an incredible masterpiece. Last but not least, I love the fact that the book is filled with helpful information on AI machines. Reading the book, I imagined how easier life would be if AI machines were part of our daily lives.
There's no reason why I disliked this book because the author did a great job writing it. I loved Kim's courage. For instance, when they were forced to repeat the frightful formulation under the intimidating scrutiny of the Director. She courageously went through that act of ritual suicide which she thought could end her existence.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 or 5 out of 5 stars because it was amazingly written, and the author used simple language which readers can easily understand. Also, the book made me appreciate humans more than I did before because of the privileges we enjoy being humans. Last but not least, the book was exceptionally edited, and I didn't come across any errors. I, however, had no reason to deduct a star from my rating because the plot of the book was great, and the book was unique.
I recommend this book to readers who love reading science fiction books and those who enjoy reading materials on artificial intelligence.
