I have just finished this book. It grabs your attention almost immediately. The author takes you to a world that almost makes you believe it could possibly exist...a world of the forgotten and overlooked...those who have"fallen through the cracks" of our everyday society..a world where dreams and nightmares become real...where reality exists in the same sphere of dreams and fantasy..Creatures that exhibit our worst traits, where only your wit and imagination can guarantee your survival. The line between reality and dreams become blurred. Rats speak, angels are evil, people are there but not there. Death is real or not real. Mr. Gaimen has caught fantasy at its best.

I love Neverwhere. I know a lot of others like some of his other work better, but Neverwhere is my favorite (of what I've read). It's strange and magical and unpredictable, with moments of odd beauty. I LOVE the Marquis de Carabas and the strangely heroic role he plays. It's one of my first recommendations for people who want to try reading fantasy but don't want Tolkienesque high fantasy.

Neverwhere has been one of my all time favorite books to read. Gaiman creates a fantastical and hopeful yet dark world. This is a short read and honestly left me wanting more. I wanted to know about this magical world that Gaiman quickly creates and inhabits. The plot was over before I could get enough of the world it was set in. I know Gaiman is fantastic at creating such diverse dark plots in magical worlds...but I would love to see more about Richard's adventures and acclimation to the new world.
