Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
In the fantasy novel We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, the land known as the Land of the Princes is divided into three distinct countries and ruled by the three sons of the Emperor of Lullabies. Despite the division, conflict and suffering continue to plague the countries due to the sons' ambition. The main character, Galen Bray, is an orphan from the Land of the Princes who escapes to Magnum Caelum with the help of his uncle's executor, Rowan. In Magnum Caelum, Galen becomes the manager of a forge. Meanwhile, King Wilhelm of Voulhire is trying to change the troubled past of Hillport town with the help of Lord Eldus Alderman. However, the plans are complicated by the presence of Meldorath, an adversary of the king. It remains to be seen what role Meldorath will play in the story and how Galen will fit into the events that unfold.
This fantasy series kicks off with a unique setting that combines elements of the medieval and the magical. The story takes place in a multiverse, where one universe is the realm of Voulhire, and the other, Caromentis, is full of magic. Characters in the book are able to access and use this magic through spells. One of the things that really stands out in this novel is the attention to detail in character development. Each character, whether major or minor, feels fully fleshed out and real, thanks to the skill of the author, Matthew Tysz, in bringing them to life through their emotions, actions, and personality. Overall, this book offers a classic fantasy adventure with the added depth of richly developed characters.
I was impressed by the way the scenes in the book were described and found that I had a good understanding of the events as they occurred. The conversations between the characters were also detailed and gave me a deeper understanding of the book. For instance, a conversation between Rowan and Galen helped me understand their relationship and how Galen came to be the executor of his late uncle's estate. Another interesting conversation revealed the deaths of Meldorath and Orlin and the reasons behind them. The descriptions and conversations in the book contributed significantly to my enjoyment of the story.
One of the things that I found most appealing about Galen in We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies was his ability to retain his innocence despite the hardships he had faced. It was surprising to see someone who had witnessed war and death still possess such a pure and unbroken spirit. This added an intriguing layer to his character and left me wanting to discover more about him and the secrets he held. Galen's innocence was a unique and captivating aspect of his personality that I thoroughly enjoyed.
There was nothing I disliked about this book. Therefore, I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. The book was exceptionally edited because there were no errors. I would recommend it to readers who love reading fantasy books.
