Review of Terms of Service
In his book Terms of Service Craig W. Stanfill introduces us to a world in the future entirely controlled by Artificial Intelligence Services. According to the title of the book, if you break a code of ethics you will lose your social standing. This social standing dictates how you live and what you have access to. In today's terms, a high social standing equates to a high social class, and a low social standing equates to a low social class. It's an interesting world I must say, one that is completely run by machines, or what would be referred to as 'bots'. Ninety percent of human labour has been replaced by automation. Every aspect of a person is closely monitored. There are chips inserted into the wrist to help you access enclosed areas. There are also headsets to help you virtually attend personal events or work meetings, instead of having to be physically there. It's the kind of future where money is completely replaced by cryptos and so many other wonderful investments.
This fictional story revolves around Kim, a trainer who rises through the ranks of artificial intelligence. When one advances in their career, however, things don't always work out as planned. As she is an adult, Kim learns that some mischievous acts were done to her as a baby to alter her identity. As she sought to escape the tragedy, she found herself at a crossroads. A successful career path with an incredible stipend package is among the options available to her. In the end, she would have to give up the freedom that she craved. She craves. The other choice gives her the freedom she wants but she has to give up everything she has worked hard for. She has to venture into the unknown, a place that has more trouble than benefits to offer.
Despite this being a work of fiction, Dr. Stanfill writes this as if it's something he has lived through or is already walking through. It is set in the future, but I can see how it could happen. This remains true with the introduction of crypto currencies, the implantation of chips into wrists, and the use of robots. All of these things are already taking place, so I understand the author's perspective.
The author has a lot of experience in this area, having earned a Ph.D. in 1983. Getting to a PhD level tells you how much time he has invested in learning about Artificial Intelligence. He had also continued to research, produce patents and even has his own website. This shows the extensive knowledge he has on this topic, knowledge that can often be very challenging to understand and even confusing due to the terminologies used. One thing I find commendable is that Dr. Stanfilll broke down this information in a very simple way. This is so that those of us who have very limited to no knowledge of Artificial Intelligence could follow what he was saying. Also, this might become a reality. Additionally,
I did not find any faults with this book. It was also perfectly edited which is why I will give it a high rating of 5 out of 5 stars
The book is recommended for anyone interested in or involved in a career in artificial intelligence. The information here has been packaged in a very informative way for you to learn a thing or two.
