We are Voulhire - A new arrival under Great Skies tells the story of Voulhire, a fictional kingdom. It follows Galen Bray, the main character, who’s new to Voulhire after escaping his land, at war. We also see other characters, whose stories help us understand how everything is related. We discover through the pages how history unravels itself, how uniserves interact with each other, and how each individual is important in the grand scheme of things. Everything is detailed, from Voulhire past to its complicated politics, tainted by secrets, that can never stay secrets for too long.

All throughout the book, we realize how big Matthew Tysz’s imagination is. The author brings us with him into a fascinating adventure. This world, Voulhire, is very well made. Nothing is left to hazards: the writer has thought about everything! He found the balance between telling a story and explaining the context of it for his readers. You start reading with no idea of what Voulhire is, and by the end of the book, you feel like this kingdom is your home. Although there are a lot of characters, each one of them is interesting, has his own backstory, personality, needs and wants. I particularly like Rowan’s humor and King Wilhelm's kindness. There is also a very appreciated advanced society, with modern laws and mores. I liked the queer representation and the way mental health was treated, which is unusual for this kind of book. Along the pages, it’s very nice to see how everything has been thought through, from the traditions of the kingdom to Destinism, the main religion of Voulhire.

There are not many negative aspects in this book, as the writing is clear, right and easy to follow. I can only slightly complain about the lack of strong feminine figures. Almost all the character’s point of view that we follow are men, and although they are very interesting and well written, more women would be very appreciated.

I’m rating this book 4 out 5 stars. I really enjoyed it and couldn't stop reading it. The dialogs were natural, with a good variation between each character regarding to where they’re coming from. I didn’t see any errors, we can see that the book has been well edited, which makes it even more enjoyable.

I would recommend this book for people over 16 years old. As long as you like fantasy, magic and adventure, this story is made for you. It’s a good introduction for what promises to be an amazing series!
