We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies, by Matthew Tysz is a science-fictional story. In the story, a young man called Galen Bray, one of the main characters in the story, has escaped his home and moved to Voulhire, a country with a lot of natural and manmade resources. Galen plans to settle in Magnum Caelum, one of the cities in the country where he intends to manage his uncle's house and business. Being so rich with a lot of resources, it would be expected that Voulhire would attract a lot of enemies, and so it was. Voulhire was attacked by its enemies including Caromentis, an imaginative world with a lot of magic. However, most of the cities did not give in to their enemies and they defeated them. One of the greatest defeats was that of an emperor who wanted to take over some of the cities in the country including Voulhire. Meanwhile, life is not easy for Galen, though not prepared, he is forced to look for Meldorath, a man of magic and an enemy to King Wilhelm, the king of Voulhire. He eventually manages to find him. He also makes new friends in the country.

I liked the way Matthew arranged this novel, before starting the story, he listed all the characters and their roles in the novel. This made it easier to understand the novel. He also included the map of Voulhire in the book, this made me picture the country that was being discussed when reading the story. Despite the chaos and attacks, this story had a lot of humor, which made it lively. The story itself is thought-evoking, the use of suspense made me keep imagining what would happen. For example, I wondered what would happen to the captain when trying to save Galen.

There are a few things I did not like about this book. Starting with the cover page, had a blue color, typically, blue color implies loyalty, freedom, and faith. However, in this novel, there was a lot of chaos contrary to my expectations. Also, I noted some grammatical errors, there were instances where there was the misuse of punctuation marks. There were also cases of compound words where hyphens were missing.

I would give this book a score of 4 out of 5 stars. The story was well-written and the characters were well-developed. However, I would not give it a perfect score of 5 out of 5 stars because of the grammatical errors and other mentioned errors discussed.

I would recommend this book to people who like stories of fantasy and magic as it contains instances of fantasy and magic.
