Review of Terms of Service
Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill, is a fictional story that takes the reader to an Artificial Intelligence era, where AIs are almost in control of life as we know it. This is a sort of futuristic world where everything is controlled by Artificial Intelligence: phones, refrigerators, microwaves as well as everything else you can think of. Kim, the centre of the story, is part of the plan. Those at the top of the food chain have put a close eye on her so that when the time is right, she and others like her could be used to achieve the AI’s agenda. Get to find out how and why Kim is a subject of interest to those in power, and walk the virtual reality journey through reading Terms of Service .
Terms of Service offers a rich sense and feel of what life as we know it may become if the human population lets it. There are instances in the book that feel almost as real as life in the present times. I loved how Craig left me questioning everything about my personal life up to now. Is there someone making decisions on my behalf? Do I have control and free will over the decisions I make and choices that concern me? Something that also stood out was the fact that there was a unique language used by a certain group of people in that era, something I felt was unique and creative. The whole techy story, virtual and ultimate reality, and all the pros and cons of tech were also creative. It was clear that technology as we know it, could be used to make life easy, but if abused by people in power, it could ruin plenty of lives and spread lies and conflicting dogmas and belief systems.
Terms of Service has no negative aspects to it, as far as I am concerned. It was exceptionally well-edited. All I anticipated in a book that expounded on AI were covered and explored in depth.
I rate the book 5 out of 5 . Craig creatively and professionally takes the readers to an AI-controlled world, where all the biggest fears and nightmares one may have about AIs and tech, in general, are brought to life. Through Terms of Service , all the dangers and benefits that technology offers are brought to light, and I’m left to ask myself whether that’s the future I long for. If not, is there anything I can do about it?
I would recommend Terms of Service to any curious reader, who loves and appreciates tech and fictional work of art. Some people fantasize about the future and ask what it would be like. Perhaps you'd have another theory after reading this piece. If you are curious and open-minded and you find a thrill in AI, technology, and fiction, this would be a good plug.
