We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz starts off with one Lord of Hillport being executed for his crimes against children by his successor, Meldorath. Some months later, the story moves on to a young man, Gallen Bray, who manages to escape from the war-ridden Lands of the Princes, hoping to start a new life in Magnum Caelum, situated in the great country of Voulhire, where he has been granted automatic citizenship for being the only heir to his dying uncle’s forge. Alongside Galen’s tale, which is the only one told in the first person narrative, we also get the stories of other citizens of Voulhire, such as the newly appointed lord of Hillport, Eldus Alderman, the powerful mage Meldorath, King Wilhelm of Voulhire, and more, told in the third person narrative.

This book was exciting, and it kept me on the edge of my seat. It is such a great introduction to what is to be a nine-book series, which I look forward to. The worldbuilding is quite simply incredible, and it’s so easy to get immersed in this world; I love it when authors include maps to make it easier to visualize. Matthew Tyzs’s writing style in this book is so easy to follow, and it doesn’t give me a headache trying to figure out what is going on. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and even grew an attachment to some of them. My favorite characters are Gallen, Lord Eldus, Marshus, and Rowan. I liked that it wasn’t too clean and that it had some dark moments, which made it more interesting. I liked seeing the stories of all these different characters and how they developed, and I can’t wait to read the next book to see how the author brings these characters and their stories together.

I could not find a single thing that I disliked about this book. It was entertaining and interesting, and it had me hooked from the prologue right to the very end. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

I didn’t find any errors while reading, and this book was exceptionally well edited. Since I so much enjoyed this reading experience, I give this book five out of five stars.

This book does contain scenes with violence and some profanity. There are also mentions of child abuse, so I suggest you read with caution if any of those bother you. I recommend this book to anyone who loves reading fantasy, magic, and adventure books. It was very enjoyable.
