Review of Terms of Service
Have you ever wonder what the future would be like with this ever-changing technology? Terms of service a book by author Craig W. Stanfill that brings out a world of AIs, a world run by technology. This is a story about a young woman, Kim who is a trainer at an Artificial intelligence company, in this world a citizen is meant to abide by the terms of service where freedom and privacy are a thing of the past, failure to abide will attract a penalty for violation or a reduction in living standards. Despite all this Kim seems to be living a fairly comfortable life until one mishap with her friend Shan and her life changes unexpectedly. Having her question everything she has ever known.
This book shows duty, hard work, freedom, and unexpected love. I love how the author brought to life the character of the AIs and the main character, while in the real world, machines are seen to be uncaring and only knowing logic with no moral sense, in this book Craig W. Stanfill gives them a humane character. Kim’s character is perfectly brought to life with problems of the real world where one has to make decisions of upholding their duty. The book was interesting though with a slow progression, which is later understood in the building of Kim’s character for the reader to understand her better.
The thing I loved the most about the book is that it evokes the reader’s mind into thinking of how the world would be with the rise of technology and how would mankind live with the AIs, would the AIs win. And what would happen if the AIs ended up in the wrong hands? The book was well-edited and I did not find any errors worth noting.
What I did not like about this book was that it was not gender-balanced and some of the terms used by the author were a little bit confusing like “mams” I feel he should have provided a glossary list to help the readers understand some of the terms used.
I rate this book five out of five due to the reasons stated above. The book was enjoyable as well as educating, it took me on a science fiction adventure that I loved and felt I was a part of. Despite having some minor issues I feel that does not justify any deduction.
I would recommend this book to readers that enjoy science fictions that have a sprinkle of romance in it and politics. However, this book would be suitable for a mature audience due to its complex language and sexual content.
