In a dystopian world run primarily by AI, individuality is not only frowned upon - it is illegal - and you will be punished for it. In Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill, Kim works for The Company and directly with AI, and she is a model citizen of this unified and cohesive society. When shadows of Kim's past start to appear while working on a new project, she realizes that life is not always as simple as right or wrong, and she must balance her stable life and career with what she feels is right.

Stanfill’s background is in Artificial Intelligence, which is clearly portrayed through the content of this book. He seems to be an expert on the concept of AI and the morality that comes with a machine-run society. I was captivated by his outstanding world-building, believable character development, and the intriguing notion of bringing science fiction to the world as we know it. I could clearly envision the world and society Terms of Service was set in, and I felt as though I knew the characters and understood their motivations.

I have nothing negative to say about the book, however, I could see how some people would find the pace in the beginning chapters to be slow. I believe the content in these first chapters is crucial to the story-telling for the rest of the book as it paints a clear picture of the world and society Kim and her friends live in. Without proper world-building, the book may be confusing or difficult to understand. I think this is only a weakness for individuals who would prefer consistent action-based plot points from beginning to end. The world-building he demonstrates is what makes the rest of the book feel so real.

I give Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill 5 out of 5 stars. I was captured by the world Stanfill caused me to believe in, and I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the concept from beginning to end. I consistently kept imagining myself in this world as Kim or her friends and wondering how I might react, or what I may do in a similar situation.

I would recommend this book to the young adult and adult community alike. This is a great book for people who like to be entertained while they read, but also like to contemplate morality and the idea of "What would I do in Kim's position?" This book is one of the most convincing and realistic sci-fi/dystopian books I have read.
