Hi,

This is my first post for this club.

I thought I would talk about a fantastic Christian Fantasy novel that I have read recently by a new author Patrick W. Carr.

A Cast of Stones follows the divine fortunes of a Drink-to-forget small village freelancer, Errol Stone. Set in a well envisioned quasi-medieval kingdom, Errol scrapes coin to fuel his medicinal Ale addiction by running errands for the local villagers. As the Kingdom's dynasty nears an end, by accepting an apparently simple task of delivering a message to a hobbit priest out of town, Errol is quickly and unwittingly embroiled in a dangerous quest to find the new air to the throne. As one secret begets another, Errol needs to find his wits, overcome his drinking habits, and learn to fight, just to stay alive. Friends are not what they seem and enemies are cold and deadly, and the lines between them swiftly blur. Errol quickly learns that his part to play in this tale, is more than trivial.

The first of a series of three books by up-and-coming Christian author Patrick W. Carr, A Cast of Stones is an edge-of-your-seat epic fantasy that should satisfy anyone's taste for adventure. This book has so many loveable (whether for their virtues or their vices) characters with sharp personalities that Carr brings to life with his original language. Carr's literary style paints a vivid picture of the landscape that ties in so neatly with the story that it's almost believable.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it has reignited a teenage hunger for fantasy novels that disappeared with my coming of age.

Thank you for reviewing this book. I have had this downloaded on my Kindle for ages, but have just not had the chance to give it a try. I didn't realize it was a series.

Thank you for your reply!

If you like adventure/fantasy, then this one is a must read, I couldn't put it down, or its sequels.

I am actually reading this book right now, well one of the books I am reading right now. Your review makes me want to stop what I am doing and read it right now! What were your favorite parts of the book? Least favorite?

Definitely my favourite part of the book was Errol's time with the caravan; his rise to one of the greatest fighters in the kingdom. The book was a random selection I made for something to read on long flights for my overseas vacation. I had finished the book before my holiday was half over. During Errol's time with the caravan I could hardly put it down.

I loved the way they have to sculpt the stone spheres while holding the question in their mind. Similar to Lyra and her divination device that I can't spell, in The Dark Materials.

Hey there,

Thanks for the comment. I'm actually a bit of a sucker for the action, but I enjoyed the respect that they gave to the craft of reading and carving lots.
