Craig W. Stanfill creates a dystopian sci-fi future in his book Terms of Service where artificial intelligence has developed to the point that it can successfully rule society. The book gives readers a quick idea of what a society ruled by artificial intelligence without the option of free will might look like. Additionally, it aids readers in comprehending the dangers that might result from an unthinking reliance on artificial intelligence. It begs the question of whether the advancement and reliance on artificial intelligence, which is the goal of contemporary civilization, is a step toward a bright future or a dark one.

The protagonist of the novel is a young AI trainer named Kim who adheres to a rigid set of social conventions, many of which take the shape of terms of service to various corporations. Kim was raised in a system that taught her to live in submission. She became a trainer because she was driven to work with AI, but she soon concluded that it wasn't as glamorous as it had first seemed to be. She ultimately became accustomed to a routine, repetitious existence like the rest of society.

This quickly changed when she and her travelling companion Shawn discovered the darker sides of society, as well as the hidden forces that ruled the rules and the artificial intelligence that ruled the entire planet. She decided to fight because she was yearning to break free from a cage that seemed to be predestined from birth, and she thought that by doing so, she would be able to liberate others from the invisible chains that constrained free will.

I love how the book does a good job of laying out the fundamentals of the terms of service that characters in the book are required to abide by as well as explaining some terms, such as the distinctions between the pronouns used by humans and artificial intelligence, which may be confusing to the reader right away. I also like how the author included enough information for us to get a glimpse of Kim's traumatic past and how she struggles to live with it while working to improve her social standing.

I dislike nothing about this book. Since it was such a fantastic book that I would want to read again, I couldn't put it down.

I rate the book a 5 out of 5 stars because it was simple to understand, enjoyable to read, suspenseful, and kept me interested from start to finish. The book was well-edited and error-free. I recommend this book to anyone interested in sci-fi, suspense, or artificial intelligence.
