Review of The Devil Pulls the Strings
The Devil Pulls the Strings by J. W. Zarek is a science-fiction book about a guy who made a promise to his friend. Boone Daniels accidentally injured Flynn, who was supposed to attend a band concert in New York City, so he promised to represent him. Professor Stone had the music piece they were supposed to present, so Boone Daniels traveled to New York to meet him. He found Sapphire Anjou, the professor's assistant, and a French diplomat. There was chaos in the professor's place since armed people were looking for the same piece of music; the Paganini music. Boone Daniels and Sapphire went to the French embassy since the armed men were following them. They later went to find the music and went to a secret society known as the Lavender and Roses Society. In it, they met a police officer they met outside Professor Stone's place. Will the armed find them? Read this book and find out.
The storyline of the book was good. The story is fast-paced since it starts from a fight between two friends, which changes events making Boone Daniels represent Flynn in a band concert. There is a mixture of genres which makes the story sweet. The author mixes mystery, fantasy, and thriller. The mystery part is about finding out what Paganini music was and what made people start killing each other. The combination of different genres makes the story sweet since it creates diversity. The book's descriptive content was great in making the story enjoyable. The author describes the physical characteristics of characters, for instance, the police officer investigating Paganini's music and the cause of murders well. It made the characters engaging since it helped familiarize the reader with the characters. Finally, the use of dialogue was impressive, it made the story lively and the characters engaging.
The book had no negative aspects. The story had a flow. Reading it was like reading a movie script, and the suspense the author created made the reader eager to read the following chapter.
I rate The Devil Pulls the Strings by J. W. Zarek five out of five stars. The book was professionally edited because I found an error. The storyline was good. The author's style of combining different genres was impressive since it made the story enjoyable. It felt like watching a movie. The characters were developed since he introduced each character by describing their physical properties. The book deserves a perfect rating despite having an error; hence, the rating.
I recommend this book to mystery story lovers. It would be helpful since it contains the mystery of Paganini music, which caused the murders of several people. Readers expect "big" discoveries which the book contains; hence, very enjoyable.
