The biggest thing most of us fear from the growth of technology is the probability that one day it may dominate us. What if that day actually arrives? The answer to this question is the base of this book, Terms of Service: Subject to Change Without Notice, by Craig W. Stanfill.

This book is about the journey of an AI developer, Kim, in a dystopian world where emotions, freedom, and privacy of any kind have been prohibited to humans by a set of strict rules. These rules, called terms of service, are made by AI with the intention of reaching a perfect world. But is the resulting world really perfect? Get the answer when you read about Kim, a good citizen with a traumatic past, who daily follows all the terms, along with the ones about matchmaking, eating, and dressing. Her life gets into turmoil when she acknowledges her emptiness and meaninglessness. What will happen when she gets punished for her emotions?

This book has been an informative, scary, thoughtful, grim, depressing, and provocative read. It made me realize how important it is to set limits on the growth of AI (artificial intelligence) and its influence on our lives. The thing that I liked the most about this book is the author's writing style and the use of descriptive imagery in the world-building. I appreciated the way the author showed how important emotions are and how meaningless everything becomes when we remove them from our lives. I also liked the journey and development of Kim and her relationships with Kimberley and Shan.

There is nothing that I essentially disliked about this book. It showcases the world through a new lens, which, honestly, has been a captivating and unsettling read at the same time.

Since the main message outweighs the negatives of this book (which, I believe, were required to pass on the message anyways), I give Terms of Service a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. This book is an example of top-notch science fiction. I could not find any editorial errors in this book, so I can say that the author has ensured proper editing for it.

I recommend this book to thoughtful and curious people who have a knack for technology and like to read science fiction. Although it does not contain any instances of profanity, it has some descriptive instances of sex and drug and alcohol abuse, along with disguised helplessness, which might not be a good fit for many readers.
