Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
In the lands of the princes, it was death by the sword, or a slow starvation. When the opportunity came, I didn’t even consider the details, I ran for the docks.” are Galen’s words as we are introduced to him in the novel. Four princes were each given an Island to rule by their father, the emperor of Lullabies in order to keep them occupied with each other and not his throne. For twenty years these princes have been at war with each other in order to become the sole heir and there has been no respite. So when the opportunity came knocking, Galen did not think twice about accepting death on an unstable boat than stay in his homeland, the Lands of the princes.
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a science fiction novel about a country called Voulhire and it is the first installment in the series. Galen’s wide-eyed innocence, ignorance and appreciation of things that I consider routine and mundane taught me to appreciate what I have. His uncle’s letter and advice was quite touching. King Wilhelm and Midius Maido are locked in a power tussle. Riva Rohavi, the dancing terrorists, thought to be dying, are waking up again to make life hard for citizens of Voulhire. Lord Meldorath is an enigma with powers rivaling that of a god, but kept captive by the King or is it just an illusion?
I thoroughly enjoyed reading We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz. First, it is full of quotes and life lessons that if taken to heart would be of great benefit in navigating life. The character development is superb and he switches perspectives from one character to another and this gives insight into what is in the mind of each character. Matthew Tysz did a great job using his words to enable me to use my imagination to see what he is describing. For instance, his description of the image of God in Yamon Soul was riveting.
The book was exceptionally well edited, I did not find any errors while reading. I rate We are Voulhire A New Arrival under Great Skies five out of five stars because it engages my imagination, especially the parts about Galen and his adventures. There was nothing to dislike about the book.
I recommend the book to lovers of science fiction, thrillers and political intrigue.
