Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a fantasy story with a focus on wealth, technology, life, faith, science, and magic. The novel recounts the subjugation of common people by monarchs, as well as the power struggles, betrayals, and false friendships brought on by the search for identity. It also examines the distinctions between those in authority and those who are subject to them, as well as between those who desire power and those who are influenced by it.
Galen Bray, the main character of this novel, is one of the four sons of a powerful ruler in a country. However, when an opportunity arises because of the wartime situation in his own country, he boards a ship to Magnum Carlin in the kingdom of Voulhire in the hopes of having a better future. Upon his arrival, he learns that his uncle, who had resided in voulhire, has passed away and that he has inherited all of his belongings. He manages to get by in a bewildering new world with the help of his uncle's friend Rowan, but he is unaware of Voulhire's ghastly and disturbing past. Galen is the main character, but the story is told from many different perspectives, allowing us to see both Voulhire's fascinating past and the many different events that are taking place there right now.
It was cool and pleasant to see the layout and have a mental picture of where everything is happening and where the characters are moving to when the author added a map at the beginning of the book, which I thought was a great idea. The characters' realism made me feel as though I was meeting them. Because the book was written from his point of view, it was easy to truly get inside the main character's brain and understand the feelings he was experiencing at any given point in time. This made the main character seem very genuine to me. The narrative truly kicks your imagination into overdrive and gives you the impression that you are there, living what you are reading, which is something I like.
I had no issues with this book. It was fascinating, and I appreciated the author's attention to detail.
I gave this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. This book was fantastic, and I couldn't wait to read the next page. The book was professionally edited and error-free. I would recommend the book to anyone who enjoys magic, fantasy, or mystery. I would also recommend the book to anyone who likes to read about politics and has a sense of adventure.
