Sweet Sleep by Kim Cormack is a story about teenagers who discover there is more to the world around them than they ever imagined. This wonderful, young adult fiction has a nice mix of supernatural and romance without being to mushy or steamy. The main characters, twins Kayn and Chloe, along with their childhood friend Kevin are intriguing from the very beginning. From the very first paragraph it is obvious that wonderful secrets will be unfolding. By the end of the first chapter I knew I was going to enjoy getting to know these bold, vibrant characters.

Kayn and Chloe are twins that are as different in personality as they are identical in looks. Kevin is Kayn’s best friend who has a hopeless infatuation with Chloe. They seem like average teenagers with normal lives. All of the characters are very unique and multifaceted. The further into the book the more you want to learn about all of them. If you like a story where the characters are all more than they first appear you will enjoy this book. The author leaves you liking the vast array of characters, and wanting to learn more about them.

There is a bit of a slow start getting to anything unusual. However, there are clues that there is more than meets the eye to keep you interested until you get there. Once started the characters are not eased into life changing events. Rather they are blindsided by complete devastation. The plot then picks up and is both well rounded and lively. You will find humor, sadness, hope, fear, and love.

If you are a fan of stories of emerging powers then you will have much to enjoy. The characters are intertwined but each develops in their own way. Significant back story links many of them together in ways that are just beginning to be explained. A great start to a series I am very much looking forward to finishing. If you are looking for a story with all the answers laid out for you quickly or in the same book, then I would recommend choosing another book. If you are looking for one that leaves you happily anticipating the next installment then look no further.

The only complaint I have is that the description on the devastating event seems to drag on longer than necessary. Others may find it was spot on. I found myself starting to skim a couple of the pages and had to go back and make sure I was properly reading.

I would recommend this book to young adults and adults alike, including my own teenage daughters. Sweet Sleep by Kim Cormack was a enjoyable read that I will gladly add to my collection of favorites. I rate it 3 out of 4 stars.

Book two, Enlightenment is where her abilities really emerge and the main character is tested in so many creatively messed up ways. lol :) Enlightenment, is where I really let my freak flag fly as an author, and it was so much fun lol

Ooh, I know you! We were talking over in the forum about tips for writing better, or something like that. I didn't make the connection! But yeah, let your freak flag fly!! I'm Meg. :character-grover:

I think I saw Enlightenment on the list to review and was tempted just so I could read it. I didn't think it would be fair to choose it though. :)

Enlightenment was my favourite for a while there, until I wrote Wild Thing. Now I'm pretty divided between the two books. I evolved quite a bit as a writer between the first book and the second.

I just found it is on amazon unlimited! Definitely sneaking it in my to read soon pile. I am having such a hard time trying to split my free time between reading and taking time for writing. So many books, so little time.

I can't grasp Twitter, or the concept of the hashtag! If you can be the first to explain it in a way that makes sense, then I will definitely follow you there!!

Great review! The plot looks interesting. I like that the story has humor and romance, with being too racy.
