We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz was a great read for me, and I have to say it was a good way to kick off the series.

A young man from the Land of Princes, a land at war for decades, is given a route out of the war by his dying uncle to claim his inheritance. He arrives in Voulhire to find out that his uncle has passed, and all he's left with is a note. He also gets a blacksmith's guide as well as the inheritance. In Voulhire, he finds a new friend, and they go on several adventures. The king appoints Eldus Alderman as the new lord of Hillport. Eldus is tasked with bringing economic growth to the town as well as ensuring a secret is kept hidden. Will he be successful in accomplishing both tasks?

From the prologue of this book, I got engrossed. I knew the author was trying to tell a story, and he had an excellent way of showing it from the very start. Including the map of Voulhire at the beginning of the book helped me make references to the land while I read the book. The author built a world with themes from the medieval era, the present-day world, and supposedly what one might deem the future or a post-apocalyptic era. The build-up to the story as well as the suspense in the book were some great features of the book that I enjoyed.

I found nothing I disliked about the book. I like the world-building; it brought a lot of life to the characters and made the world of Voulhire more realistic and colorful. Since this is the first book of the franchise, it was nice of the author to take his time to build this world of Voulhire along with his characters, leaving the reader with an entertaining image of the book. I find nothing wrong with this book. My favorite character was Galen; he was thoughtful, humble, and appreciative.

I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. There are certainly no errors in this book; it has been properly edited. Science and fiction mixed together are always interesting. I recommend this book to people who love to get out of the world, people who want to revel in stories of a different world, and people who would love to delve into the world of science fiction.
