In the first book of the We are Voulhire series, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, Matthew Tysz tells the story of a wicked ruler called the Emperor of Lullabies, who has four sons with legitimate claims to the throne. The Emperor foresaw his sons would overthrow him and divide the kingdom among themselves, so he gave them a small chain of islands, an army, and weapons. The princes were happy for a while, but soon a civil war broke out, lasting for years.

Galen is from this war-torn land, and he is poor. Once he got a chance, he escapes and gets on a boat and goes to a town in Voulhire called Magnum Caelum to receive an inheritance from his uncle. When he got to Magnum Caelum, he meets his uncle’s executor Rowan, who gives him his inheritance. Galen is contented to be in this land as it is peaceful and is excited to start his new life here.

A new lord has been sent to Hillport, a town in Voulhire after the previous one has been overthrown. The King believes that Lord Eldus Alderman will ensure the economic situation in Hillport will improve. Lord Eldus faces challenges in his task and he knows it will not be easy, but he still tries to make his dream come true.

What I loved about the book We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tsyz is that there was a map in the beginning as it helps you picture in your mind where the places are as the characters are traveling from town to town. I also loved that there was a character list that gives you an idea of the characters and so as you read the book, you can recall who they are. I found that impressive. The book had interesting plot twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. The author did a job in building the characters as they were very well-developed.

There was nothing I disliked about this book and the story was fascinating. I did not find any errors in the book, so it was professionally edited. Therefore, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes medieval times, fantasy, and mystery, and to those who love magic. There is the use of profanity words, so it would not be suitable for those who are sensitive to profane words or younger readers.
