Highland Shift Book 1, by Laura Harner

Post by K Venne »

This is the first book of 4 in the Highland Destiny Series.

This is a great story about young woman named Elena whose life has just completely changed. Her career and love life have just taken a turn for the worse and all at the hands of her ex-future father in law. She ends up making a fresh start for herself after deciding to leave Phoenix and move to Scotland.

Things quickly become interesting at the airport where she encounters a seemingly overconfident and good looking Scotsman named Faolan who is trying to get onto her flight. Elena is instantly attracted to this man, but he's the exact type of man that she knows is no good for her and one of her reasons for making a new life. And despite her best efforts to avoid him, Faolan keeps showing up and getting involved in her new life.

Once Elena has gotten settled into her new home she discovers that things are not quite as they seem and that this house has secrets. Secrets which uncover things about Druid's, Faery's, magick and wolves and somehow Faolan is connected to all of this.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It has a very good storyline with a very hot love story. I sometimes felt that the author went into more detail than necessary in the sex scenes - but I'm not sure if the love story would have had the same intensity without those details.

The only thing that bothered me about this book is the lack of information and details about the relationship with her ex. I felt that perhaps there could have been flashbacks to certain elements of their relationship to give it more substance and to create more history apart from what was said at the beginning of the book. I felt like he was an unnecessary character that could have been written out of the story with a slight change to Elena's reasoning for moving to Scotland.

I would definitely read the rest of the books in this series, however it seems as if each book in the series is about different characters. I would probably rush to buy the rest of the books if the series continued on with Elena and Faolan's story.

Due to the sexual nature of the story I would recommend this series to adults who enjoy books with mystery, magick and betrayal.

I'd rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars.
