Matthew Tysz has written a compelling fantasy novel entitled We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies. This book represents an intertwinement of political and magic realism; the tale describes everything between war, politics, and society in the context of magic. The main character, Bray Galen, is called into Mangum Caelum, by his uncle. The opportunity of coming to this city, in the Kingdom of Voulhire, was life-changing for Bray, as his homeland was engaged in military conflicts and could not strike peace with the neighboring nations. Bray does not meet his uncle as he passes away, leaving the forging business to his nephew. Follow the main character in his ventures in Voulhire.

One aspect I enjoyed was that magic was not the main theme of the book; the setting of the story takes place in a reality where magic exists, but does not overpower veridicality. The action is credible and not overtly grotesque in how things would work in our world. I think this made the book's content more relatable, and the magic elements were used to stress the socioeconomic and political aspects. I also noticed that the names of the characters were of similar construction. The extent to which the author went to create this fictional universe is admirable. I feel the author did a great job creating anticipation for this series, as I cannot wait to read the next book. Matthew Tysz includes a glossary at the end of this novel, which is an aspect I specifically look for when contemplating the purchase of a fictional book. This aspect is salient for fully understanding all the foreign terms of this macrocosm.

I enjoyed this book, so I could identify nothing I disliked. The writing style was easy to follow and flowed impeccably. I could not find any grammatical errors or typos, which leads me to believe this book was professionally edited.

It is an easy decision to rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. This is a book that will always have a place on my bookshelf. I am a huge fan of fantasy and science-fiction novels, so this does not surprise me. I could not find inconsistencies in the plot, which is a big plus. Everything made sense in the real life, and in the context of magic.

I have a lot of knowledge when it comes to international and internal politics, so I could grasp the socioeconomic and political information in this book. I also enjoy kingdom-related power play, so this book was right up my alley. Furthermore, I could only recommend it to people similar to me; adults or young adults who are fantasy fans, and have political knowledge. If you don't have such knowledge, you will miss out on the suspense of this tale.
