Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfil
This sci-fi story begins with our protagonist Kim, a hardworking young woman. Right off the bat, it is clear that Kim and the other people she interacts with exist within this dystopian society which is a product of technological advancement. The events in the book point to a potentially distant future of humankind run by AI. Things as trivial as home appliances are run by AI. The author immediately paints a picture within the initial scenes where Kim fails to convince her refrigerator to give her what she wants and instead recommends a healthier option based on her body weight. Our main protagonist is an AI trainer and has worked extensively with AI despite having a complicated relationship with them.

This society is governed by Terms of Service, which everyone is required to follow. The Terms of Service dictate a significant part of their day-to-day lives, and there are dire consequences for not following them. In this society, everyone has their place, and on the surface, everything seems to be running smoothly, but that turns out to be false when Kim catches a glimpse of some dangerous, powerful secrets. She begins to understand just how malicious those who run the society are, and she purposes to take back some control.

I enjoyed reading this particular story. The author takes time to build up this world in which the reader can fully immerse themselves in. The first part of the story is the author's time to illustrate a day in the life of an ordinary woman with an ordinary job. This paints a picture of what life looks like to the reader. I really enjoyed this aspect of the book as the author took the time to create this vivid world that the reader could easily imagine. It was a very visual book, with the author going into detail about various scenarios. Although it was not as action-packed as typical sci-fi novels tend to be, I did not mind the book's pace, as understanding the layout of the world that the author was crafting first was rewarding when it came to the later parts of the book. There is nothing about this book I did not like.

The book contains various themes, such as moral and ethical concerns about personal freedom, the repercussions of mass surveillance and how much the general aspects of our lives have the potential to be controlled by technology. The book raises questions such as; how much of an individual's information should be in the hands of the powerful few, and what will the world look like in the future as technology progresses? With the rise of AI in our world already, how long will it take until we no longer have personal control over even the most trivial aspects of our lives?

I rate this book five out of five stars as I enjoyed reading it. Also found no grammatical errors, and the book seems exceptionally well-edited. I recommend this book to any adult reader looking for a good sci-fi story with several thought-provoking questions, as the book contains some adult themes.
