Peter, Lucy, Edmund, and Susan are staying at a professor's house for a while during a war. One day Lucy discovers a wardrobe that leads to Narnia. The others are doubtful, but enter as well. The White Witch lures Edmund, while the other three search for Aslan to help free the land of eternal winter. Will they beat the witch or fall in defeat?

The book was entertaining. After a childhood of Harry Potter I never got into the books. Now I think that the characters are very amusing and entertaining. The story is cute, but it is definitely a children's book. Lucy should've gotten more recognition.

I am so sorry you felt this was a children's book only! I have read this book many times and C.S. Lewis does an amazing job with imagery and allegory in the entire series. Although he did indeed write these books for his grandchildren, the stories have deep theological elements running through them that young adults and adults would be more likely to grasp. Lewis does an amazing job portraying good against evil and if you follow the whole series you can see how the children themselves must overcome struggles in evil before they can help others. This is a great attribute to instill in children. I encourage you to read the series if you have not already.

A brilliant book by a brilliant man. Lewis had a gift for cutting to the truth with fun.

I was planning to download the movie. Is it any good? Is it a good representation of the movie?

One of my favorite C.S. Lewis books. The story within the story really captures the imagination. Also, I enjoyed the morals of the story and the theme of growing up and sacrifice for others. This story is a classic and readers of any age can enjoy it. Wonderful series

Dear Stoppoppinthep, here is the thing about the movie, the movie was very pretty but didn't keep to the story as well as I would have liked. The more movies they have come out with the further from the book they get. If you want my opinion the biggest bang for your buck I would suggest the bbc miniseries Chronicles of Narnia. BBC did all the books accept the magicians nephew. I bought the whole series on Amazon for about $10. It's 90's BBC so the special effects aren't that "special" but the attention to detail and how closely they follow the books made it very worth it to me, good luck!

Haven't seen the movie, but the book is a classic. Read it when I was a child (which seems like eon's ago now). The whole series was well done, although some of the middle books didn't stick with me the same as the first. Loved the ending of the series too. Still remember the shock at the "twist", which in retrospect seems obvious.

This book was my first foray into fantasy. I had no idea there were theological elements of any sort until I was an adult. To me, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe will always be about 4 children left to their own devices and discovering a magical new world. Goodness knows I wanted to do the same when I was 12! What drew me back to this book time and again was the hope that maybe I could live in their world of centaurs and witches and talking animals, and spend the rest of my life there.

I remember reading this as a child before seeing the movies (both the Disney and non-Disney versions). Many people don't pick it up because of the strong Christian Community that swarms around this book. I found it a fantastic read! If you want a deeper meaning, you can read it with faith in mind, if you just want an adventure, you can just read it as an adventure!

Great book! Definitely not just a children's book. There are so many deeper lessons in this book that the author intended for the older audience. I definitely recommend this one.

Well said! I remember being so very thrilled when I first learned that there was an entire series, not just the one book. I have been enchanted by the The lion, the witch and the wardrobeseries since childhood and i have no intentions of stopping any time soon!

I don't think that the book is only for children, I have reread it several times as an adult and have completely enjoyed it. I suggest reading the rest of the series, they are all wonderfully amazing.

A true classic, I do wish I read it first as the various adaptations were faithful and ruined the surprises.
Magician's nephew is very very good too, giving a lot of depth to the witch which makes her a touch sympathetic but still a bad one no question.

i was first introduced into these books while i was in school our English homework was to read one chapter per week. I found the entire series to be interesting from childhood through to adulthood, finding that there are things that you pick up on that you may have missed or not understood as a child.
