Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Matthew Tysz's first novel in the series is titled We are voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies. It is a novel about magic, fantasy, strength, adventure, and self-realization. The plot of the novel shows a situation where the ruling class engages in power struggles that greatly disadvantage the country's working class. The combination of politics, magic, and adventure in the novel is wonderful. The political element might be tied to the current state of affairs, when those in positions of authority continue to engage in nefarious activities to further their goals, regardless of the harm caused to others.
There were four sons of Wilhelm, king of Voulhire, who resided there alongside him. One day, he gets the impression that they are conspiring to depose him. He assigns each son his island, riches, and army to foil their scheme and sow strife among them over the succession to the kingdom of Vôlhire. The common citizens living in the country of the princes suffer immensely as a result of the wars that soon break out amongst the four sons of King Wilhelm, exactly as the monarch had intended.
Galen Bary, a refugee who fled conflict in the country of the princes, travels to Magnum Caelum intending to take over his uncle's company and improve his quality of life. He has great expectations when he first joins this new realm, but after months of encountering several challenges, he learns that not everything that glitters in this world is gold. Will Galen still be able to maintain his cloud-like perspective when he learns more about voulhire and the world at large?
I adore the way the author set up the structure of the book; he did so in such a manner that even readers who don't typically enjoy the fantasy subgenre can't help but become fascinated. The chapters are written from several points of view, which allows the reader to experience the tale from each character's point of view, and I also adore how the book has a feeling of uniqueness.
I did not dislike anything about this book; it was an easy read with an intriguing storyline.
I gave this book a 5 out of 5-star rating because of its fast-paced narrative and because it serves as an excellent introduction to the world we, the readers, are about to enter. I'm eager to see what Matthew Tysz accomplishes with the series next. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in action and magic novels; they would enjoy it.
