We are Voulhire: a New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is another entry into the fantasy genre that introduces the author's new series of books. We begin in the titular kingdom of Voulhire. After years of growth and prosperity, the domain is poised to reach its much-promised Golden Age. A vision that has been long-held and hard-fought for by generations of the country’s leaders since its unification. At this important historical junction, we are introduced to several key figures whose actions may significantly affect the course of the country’s future. There is King Wilhelm, Voulhires King, Chancellor Midus Maido, young Galen Bray, a recent immigrant, and Lord Meldorath, former General/Lord of Hillport, a small town in Voulhire that acts as the catalyst for what is to come. Plans have been set in motion, sinister elements move in the shadows, while all who reside in Voulhire are players, unwitting or otherwise, in a game of magic and mystery.

Reading this book felt like I was in a dream that I knew I was dreaming. The author's writing style conveyed the feelings of mystery and tension very well. Especially when it comes to Lord Meldorath. The fable created around his name made him seem like a god in human form and was really gripping. This was probably my favorite feature in the book. His introduction is up there with the likes of Darth Vader and Hannibal Lecter, just intimidating and menacing, but with gravitas. I also liked how the writer handled the large cast of characters, and how well they were utilized to unfold this new world to us. Nothing felt unnecessary or out of place, and it all worked together to further the story. The dialogue is another high point; it was funny, intelligent, and felt so natural. You could easily perceive each person's personality with each interaction. Nothing short of excellent writing.

I do not have any justifiable complaints. The only things that I could complain about were already explained and accounted for before the story began. Any terms or references that I may need to know or might not have understood were available in the glossary at the back of the book. Any issue I would have with the short length and where the book ends is addressed by the fact that this book is one in a series of books. So I have no legitimate complaint.

The formula for fantasy novels is well established, and though We are Voulhire does have some interesting concepts, it does not do anything groundbreaking for the genre. However, it does not need to as its execution is masterful, so I award it 5 out of 5 Stars. I found no noticeable grammatical errors, hats off to the editing team, and I thoroughly enjoyed the overall writing style. You have gained a new fan Mr. Matthew Tysz.

For my recommendations, obviously, any lover of the fantasy genre will love this new addition instantly, but I will also boldly recommend it to everyone, as it can make a fan out of anyone. There are some mildly mature elements and violent scenes, but if these do not phase you, then you are good to go.
