A review of Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill.

Terms of Service follows the main character Kim who works and lives in a futuristic utopian world run by AI where Unity, Community, and Equality reign supreme and any deviation is dealt swiftly and without mercy. Kim always dreamt of working with artificial intelligences and when an old friend from school sweeps back into her life like a storm, she comes under heavy scrutiny and quickly learns the truth of her world and AI at its fundamental levels.

Terms of Service really makes you sit down and think about the what the world would look like with AI and corporations running the show. This book felt like a cross between The Matrix and The Giver. At the beginning the book was a bit dry in order to understand the society Kim lived in but the pace quickly picked up and I didn’t put the book down until I was at the end.

This was a well constructed story that is fitting with the times as we as a people are about the enter the age of advanced AI. The story flowed very well and once it was past the societal breakdown it was impossible to put down. The only negative about the book is the inability to tell gender but then again I believe it was also one of the purposes of the story.

As an avid SCI/FI and dystopian reader I strongly recommend this book and give it a 5 out of 5 rating. This book captures the imagination and keeps you until it’s finished with you. This book was also well edited and I found almost no spelling/grammar errors, although the paragraph formats took me a while to adjust to because it was not the norm as compared to my kindle reading.

This book would be great for audiences who love to have a quick read about dystopian futures or hard science fiction.
