Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, a book by Matthew Tysz, exposes us to the wonderfully imaginative world of the voulhire. It is a book about power struggles, betrayals from allies, and helplessness. Power and how avaricious people in positions of influence are topics covered by the author. In the book, society, as it is today, is realistically described, including how the desire for power has weakened society and had a detrimental effect on all citizens, but notably on those who are already suffering from extreme poverty.
Meldorath, a former friend of the monarch who was imprisoned by the king and assumed dead by the populace, is the central mystery of the narrative. The tale opens with Galen Bray, one of the four sons of a strong king of the country known as the Land of Princes, fleeing when the chance presented itself to travel by ship to Magnum Caelum in the kingdom of Vulhire to claim the fortune left for him by his uncle. In the meanwhile, faith, science, and magic each make their covetous promises for a better world as the people of the kingdom of Vulhire move into an uncertain future.
I adore how the author provided a map at the beginning of the book to aid readers in finding their way around and enhance their enjoyment of the narrative. I also admired how realistic he made Galen appear to be. He maintained his good nature and had hope for a better future despite the chaos and everything that had occurred to him. The author let my imagination go wild because of the flare he used while writing about the mystical aspects of the novel, especially about the enigmatic Meldorath. In some sections of the book, I was kept on my toes because I needed to know what happened next. I was exposed by the author to a setting in which the natural and paranormal interact.
I'd also like to mention how the characters were shifted in the new chapters, which caused me confusion. It took me some time before I realized who I was reading a new chapter about.
I rated the book 5 out of 5 stars. The author's use of language enables readers to see the narrative in their minds. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free. I recommend this book to people who prefer both good mystery books and fantasy novels with lots of action.
