The book is set in a futuristic city, and the UCE governs the society there. Everything is monitored - from food choices to intimacy and bearing children. Everyone has rules and laws they have to live by and your behavior determines your social status. Higher-ranking individuals get access to privileges – better living conditions, more convenient transportation, etc. If you disobey the rules, these get taken away or you even get punished, for example, by not having access to hot water, being moved out to worse districts of the city, etc.

Kim works at an artificial intelligence company and has been hoping for a raise in her monotone work for a long time. She just wants a comfortable, happy life, but is regularly pulled down by her unexplainable loneliness and despair. After getting in trouble because of her behavior, she is surprised to be presented with the opportunity to climb the career ladder and become a Creator of an AI. It is a difficult, but important job, which eventually leads to an unsettling discovery - the world works way differently than she had thought before.

Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill is a fiction novel. The storyline was very captivating and flowed smoothly, it slowly revealed details about life in this society. I enjoyed learning about it, as the author thought it out well. For example, he uses newly made words like “selfism”, and called companies very simply, like “Transportation company” which worked well to amplify the book's futuristic dystopian feel. This was a book that really pulled me in, and I have to say - that does not happen too often. I did crave a little more information about how the world works, for example, how one gets to choose their significant other or why are people outside the city allowed to live without surveillance and technology, but I guess this kept me wanting more and left room for imagination.

Nevertheless, I am confidently giving Terms of Service a rating of 5 out of 5, because it was a really enjoyable book and I would love to read more books from this author. Also, the book was exceptionally well edited as I did not notice any errors while reading it.

I highly recommend this book to sci-fi fans who love reading about dystopian societies. It is also good for people who like storylines that push moral boundaries and make you think about what freedom is and what is important in life.
