Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
The first book in Matthew Tysz's high fantasy trilogy is titled We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Sky.
Galen Bray is a war-torn emigrant from the Land of Princes who is looking for safety in the affluent nation of Voulhire. Galen is first thrilled at the thought of beginning a new, peaceful life in the small village his estranged uncle had lived in after securing passage to the major nation to collect his fortune from him. Galen soon finds himself in the middle of an adventure of more significance than he could have ever dreamed since the kingdom of Voulhire is rife with legend and mystery.
This book was excellent. The action was fast paced, never dull, and deliciously unpredictable. Because I had anticipated the outcome at the beginning of the novel, I assumed I knew who would pass away in the end. All along, I was mistaken! Everybody who enjoys reading fantasy novels is aware that, whether they are epic adventures or dark fantasies, you never know when one of the main characters might get fucked. Although numerous, each personality is entertaining and humorous. The plot of the book is always clear to the reader, and I never had any trouble figuring out who Galen was.
The background on the Kingdom of the Princes in this book's introduction is fascinating; it has a tone that is hard to explain and reads like someone recounting a traditional fable. Considering that this is only the first book in the series, it managed to create a distinct world with complex characters. Each person has a unique personality and set of motivations. Nevertheless, every city has distinctive characteristics that give it a personality of its own. This novel holds a lot of potential for the next books in the series.
Nonetheless, I was disappointed to see a few of the people I got to know while reading this novel disappear so quickly. I frequently felt perplexed. There is a lot of underdeveloped characters. Also, the concept of the plot was disappointing. I understand that this is referred to as the first series. But I wasn’t able to relate to it. The editing on this book was excellent. I didn’t find any grammatical errors.
I give the book 5 out of 5 stars. The people who like science and adventure will be most drawn to it. I can't wait to soon finish the second series. Although I don't believe in censorship and this book wouldn't have had the same impact without its unconventional mature content, I would not suggest this book for younger kids due to the explicit scenes and language.
