We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies tells many stories. The main story is about surviving war and thriving in a strange land. This is a review of the book. In this review, I will tell you what I liked, disliked, and expected from the book. In other words, you will know what I think of Matthew Tysz’s book.

Four princes fought for control of each other’s land. These four were brothers, but being brothers did not stop them from coveting each other’s lands. Unknown to them, their rivalry was orchestrated by their father, who did not want them to even think of displacing him from the throne. So they fought like mere pawns in their father’s game. Unluckily for everyone who lived in their lands, death quickly became the order of the day. Galen was one of the unlucky people who lived there. One day, he got the news that someone from the Voulhire was looking for him. That messenger claimed Galen was the heir to a simple blacksmith’s fortune in Voulhire. Unable to contain his excitement, for this was his chance to escape, he jumped into a ship that set sail for Voulhire. The starry skies of that kingdom greeted him. Galen was now a free man. What will he do with his freedom?

I pride myself on my inability to lie about the books I read. On that note, I beseech you to believe me when I say We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is one of the best fantasy novels on the market. Matthew Tysz poured so much into this novel. I saw and appreciated his effort to make this novel one of the best. He made sure to edit it, just as I expect every author to edit their novels. Its editing was exceptional. The story also had a plot that kept me glued to it for hours. There is hardly any book that can do that to me.

In addition to giving his readers an exciting story, Matthew Tysz added maps to the book. Now, that is something that got me excited, and that is what I liked most. As a map nerd, I always appreciate it when authors go out of their way to map out the lands they write about. I cannot explain why I love this, but I just do. Matthew Tysz put up a well-detailed map showing all the lands in Voulhire.

I promised to tell you what I disliked in We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies. Well, the truth is, I cannot say anything negative about it. That is because there is nothing I disliked in all 199 pages of this book. This fact informed my decision to give this novel an excellent rating of 5 out of 5 stars.

Who should read We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies? The first group of people I think should read this novel are people who like fantasy novels about war and survival. Now, that is a vast group. I believe a subset will love this novel more. That subset is made up of people who love novels set in medieval times in a land that has magic, scientists, troublemakers, and unlikely heroes. I recommend it to those who do not want to read novels that recycle the same theme of good versus bad because, in this one, the fine line between both groups is very thin.
