Review of Terms of Service
Some procedures must be implemented for a business to guarantee the happiness of its customers. This could be viewed as conditions or terms that a client must achieve to fully benefit from or be satisfied. Ever wondered what it might be like to live in a society where artificial intelligence controls every aspect of daily life? This is standard in the society in which Kim lives, according to Craig W. Stanfill's Terms of Service. Kim leads a very routine life as an AI trainer for The Artificial Intelligence Company. Kim got out of bed and started her routine day, which included eating breakfast and retiring to bed after dinner. She found subjects A and B had broken the terms of the company's service one day while keeping an eye out for any violations. What did subjects A and B do that resulted in a violation? What are the repercussions of that? Find out by reading on.
To better understand the gravity of violations, one must consider exactly how oppressive Kim's world is. Can you picture not being allowed to choose what you want to eat or when there are only a few colors allowed to be worn without incurring consequences? This is how Kim's world is set up. She is only able to express a limited range of emotions, and AIs control her diet, social interactions, romantic relationships, and behavior. Even though the world is well-planned, there are certain disadvantages; everything seems to be under the control of AIs, and people are now being ruled by them, in all parts of their lives. Having beliefs or opinions in this world is fairly dangerous, as the ensuing consequences are harsh. Kim and her friend Shan expected the worst following an episode where they went against the grain. Instead, only Shan was disciplined, while Kim was given an unexpected promotion at work. Kim is concerned that the AIs might be working toward a secret goal.
The author's appealing writing style engages the reader. The elements in the book are engrossing and described to such an extent, that I could envision this modernized society. The fact that this reality is not so far from ours helped as well; scientists are working to create future versions of the events Stanfill depicts taking place in the real world. Because it depicts human creations, catastrophes, and bad outcomes, I adore this book. The fact that this book is fictional allows readers to get a glimpse into what can happen in the future. AI domination is not off the table if we take into account the speed of technological advancement in the last decade. I have always enjoyed novels revolving around the concept of virtual reality or robot-like inventions. Moreover, the book was very entertaining as the technical aspect of AI did not monopolize the tone of the book; there were scenes full of sarcasm and humor; un-robot-like speech structures. I enjoyed how relatable Kim's character was as she faced many challenges on the journey of finding her true self and identity.
There are no negative aspects, from my perspective. For the reasons mentioned, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I did not encounter any mistakes, grammatical or otherwise, which leads me to claim this book was professionally edited.
I only recommend this book to people over 18 years old. There are many mature concepts and notions discussed in this book, not suited to minors or sensitive readers. Fans of science fiction definitely need to pick up a copy of this book.
